Is contemptible get old in Brazil?

Few days ago, in a TV program there was the participation of an 70 years old actress and an young and tempting model of 20 years old.

The old actress besides her talent didn’t show physically her real age. Although the young model had all the qualities and beauty that our nowadays society demands.

In a lot of moments the older actress put herself in a senior condition, saying that she got old and she didn’t have the seduction as a weapon, putting herself in disadvantage. She had a lot of sense of humor to say those words, but she couldn’t deny her disappointment and at the end she said, " Getting old is contemptible".

Since the Seventies, Brazil was considered a "young country". This way, the Brazilian population, even today can only see the negative aspects of getting old as the diseases, the wrinkles on the face, the fat and flabby body, the loneliness and the abandon. These are some characteristics of "getting old". On the other hand the opposite qualities of a human being belongs exclusively to the youth.

What happens is that the youth never disappears on the people inward feelings and the changing of appearance is not perceived. Who perceives their appearance changing are the onlookers.

In spite of the hair turns gray, the eyes and the ears don’t work so well and the body turns flabby is necessary to understand that this kind of changes happens in our whole life since the day of birth until the senior age. Even though the doctors don’t consider the transformations above diseases it causes depression and low self-esteem in the old people. It’s important not only to the old people but also to the whole society understand that it’s the circle of life and there is any problem with that. Our society gives value only to the youth reserving only the bad and negative aspects to the seniors making those give up of their future projects.

Nowadays these concepts have been changing. The number of old people have been increasing and it is bringing social and cultural worries. We can give as examples some projects directed not only by the governor but also by the society. These projects are about some places, which help the seniors to have a better social relationship, this way giving them a better quality time.

The participation of seniors in different activities besides making stronger their friendship out of the familiar context can also bring the perspective of new experience. The dance is a good example of activity which brings well-being to the seniors, furthermore it has been efficient to some health problems, and it gives them body release what demonstrate that in spite of the fact of the age, it’s possible live happy and pleasure fully.
